New Job For Transsexual City Manager

Lake Worth hires Susan, formerly Steve

Going from Steve to Susan cost a city manager her Largo job but the controversial transsexual has finally landed on her feet in Lake Worth.

Susan Stanton, formerly Steve, was fired from her previous position after undergoing a sex change. But last night the Lake Worth City Commission approved Stanton as city manager at a 4-1 vote.

"I felt she had the right temperment for our city," said Lake Worth Commissioner Jo-Ann Golden. "Truthfully speaking, I learned quite a bit from her which I felt was very important."

Stanton had worked for Largo for 16 years before he caused a firestorm by announcing his sex change, getting him fired in 2007.

"It's phenomenal for our organization," Allan Hendricks, with activist group Equality Now, told WPTV. "We're excited and we're very proud of Lake Worth for walking the walk."

Stanton beat out 50 other applicants for the Lake Worth job, which will pay her about $150,000 a year.
