New Smyrna Beach Man Accused of Killing Grandmother Ruled Incompetent

A 28-year-old central Florida man has been ruled incompetent to stand trial for the stabbing death of his grandmother.

Circuit Judge Frank Marriott made the ruling Tuesday after reviewing reports by experts from the state and Patrick Campbell's defense attorneys.

State Attorney spokesman Spencer Hathaway says Campbell will be taken to a state hospital ``to restore competency for future proceedings.''

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports Campbell was indicted by a grand jury in April on charges of first-degree murder and robbery in the slaying of 64-year-old Darlene Robertson.

Robertson was found beaten and stabbed inside her home on March 17.
