New Traffic Patterns Set to Debut at Two Dolphin Expressway Intersections in August

Drivers looking to travel on the Dolphin Expressway from two Miami-Dade roads are going to see a brand new traffic pattern in the coming weeks – and officials want you to be prepared.

The Miami Dade Expressway Authority will hold a community meeting on Wednesday to explain and preview the new Diverging Diamond Interchange, a new pattern that will force drivers to briefly cross over the left side of the road as the pass under the expressway.

Two intersections at the Dolphin Expressway – located at Northwest 27th Avenue and 57th Avenue – will have the DDI patterns stating in August.

Officials will answer questions at the 6:30 p.m. meeting located at Grapeland Heights Park off Northwest 37th Avenue and 15th Street. The meeting will also be livestreamed on the MDX Facebook page.

The DDIs are designed to eliminate the need to turn left to the entrance ramps of the expressway, according to a press release from MDX, while relieving traffic congestion.

The two patterns are part of a modernization project while will included widening portions of the expressway to add an additional lane at certain points.
