No Bond For Man Accused of Raping 13-Year-Old Girl

Theodore David Coleman is charged with sexual battery, lewd and lascivious molestation and kidnapping

A judge denied bond Tuesday for a Miami man who is accused of kidnapping a 13-year-old girl, taking her to his home and raping her repeatedly.

Theodore David Coleman, 48, is charged with sexual battery, lewd and lascivious molestation on child, lewd and lascivious exhibition on child and kidnapping, records show.

Officials said Coleman allegedly kidnapped the 13-year-old as she left a North Miami Walgreens and walked along Biscayne Boulevard Friday. Coleman offered the girl a ride home but instead took her back to his house, authorities said.

Coleman, who lives in an apartment complex off Ives Dairy Road and goes by the name of Teddy, lives with his mother.

"I mean, what is kidnapping?" his mother, Barbara asked. "She went willingly in his car."

Coleman's mother added that the two met that evening and that she was home that night.

According to investigators, at his home Coleman raped the girl repeatedly. Police said the assault continued until Saturday when the victim was able to escape.

"She was not screaming or crying. She was giggling. I heard a giggle - like playing. Giggling," she said. "The next day, he took her out the entire day. They went out to Miami. He took her out to lunch. He took her out to places that they never saw before."

She added that she never saw the girl and did not know she was 13.

One neighbor was shocked to hear the man she just had a conversation with while she was walking her dog is accused of this.

"I have grandkids. You've got to be kidding me," a neighbor who identified as MJ said. I've been living here almost seven years and you showed me his picture, yes. I was face to face with him. He didn't want me to leave when I was talking with him. It's so strange."

While Coleman's mother believes her son is wrongly charged, she agrees he should not be hanging out with teenage girls.

"He should know better," she said. "If I were him, I'd stay away from all girls."

In 1990, Coleman was charged with sexual battery with a weapon causing harm and in 1998 he was arrested for showing sexuality explicit images to minors.

Coleman is registered as a sexual offender on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement website.

It was not immediately known who was representing Coleman.
