North Miami Beach Officer Making Strides in Recovery After Crash

New details have been released surrounding a North Miami Beach Police officer who was involved in a serious crash.

Officer Nicole Mood was able to get up and walk around the hospital floor during therapy on Thursday. North Miami Beach Police provided the update on the GoFundMe page set up for her.

Officer Mood was on patrol on Nov. 15 when police said she was struck by a drunk driver. It happened in the 1900 block of Northeast 163rd Street.

"The family has so much gratitude for all the prayers, for the positive thoughts that have come in," North Miami Beach Police Capt. Richard Rand said after the crash. "It's because of these prayers that's making a difference in Nicole's life."

Police said after a driver struck Mood's vehicle, she traveled into a large traffic pole and had to be extricated from the vehicle while she was unconscious.

The driver of the other car reportedly tried to flee the scene on foot but was caught.

The North Miami Beach Police Department has organized a fundraiser for Mood for Monday, Nov. 23 at Wingstop at 1452 Northeast 163rd Street between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
