Real Nose Candy: Man Caught Smuggling Cocaine in Candy Bags

Man hid cocaine in candy bags at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

Cocaine is sometimes known as nose candy so that must have given one smuggler the novel idea of smuggling blow in actual candy.

Jose Manuel Torres Perez, 18, was busted at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport earlier this week after U.S. Customs agents found nearly 10 kilograms of cocaine hidden in his luggage.

More specifically, the coke was hidden in candy bags and the candy itself.

On Nov. 1, Perez was traveling from Colombia when he was stopped for inspection.

A search of his bags turned up several bags of candy with secret compartments filled with cocaine. It was the day after Halloween, but agents weren't expecting that type of trick or treat haul.

Then agents field tested the candy and found that the sweets were also laced with cocaine. Perez was arrested and charged with federal drug trafficking.

In total, agents confiscated 9.6 kilograms of blow, keeping even more nose candy off the streets.
