Louisiana jailbirds travel 1,000 miles to stay at Miami Budget Inn

A trio of Louisiana prisoners were captured in Miami this morning after fleeing 1,000 miles during a two-week jail break, authorities said.

The three men were picked up at a Budget Inn on the 8900 block of Northwest 27th Ave. in Miami by U.S. Marshals after the truck they escaped in was found on Collins Ave.

Hughes was serving a four-year sentence for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. Johnson was serving a 10-year sentence for parole violation while awaiting trial for armed robbery.

All are considered violent criminals, police said.

The three men escaped from a jail in Marksville, LA on March 30, using a knife to threaten a corrections officer. A second officer was stabbed with the knife when he tried to stop them.
