Everglades Closing Main Road, Some Buildings for Obama's Earth Day Visit

Everglades National Park will be closing its main road and some buildings near its main entrance because of President Barack Obama's visit scheduled Wednesday.

Obama will visit to the park Wednesday afternoon to talk about global warming's threat to the U.S. economy. The speech isn't open to the public.

From midnight Tuesday through 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, the park will close its headquarters building, the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center and the Royal Palm Visitor Center and Anhinga Trail.

The main park road between the main Homestead entrance and the Long Pine Key Campground also will close for over three hours Wednesday afternoon, though park facilities past the campground will remain open.

Other entrances to the park will not be affected by the president's visit.

Motorists can also expect some delays in and around the Everglades Wednesday afternoon.
