Officer Dies During SWAT Tryouts

An aspiring Davie police officer is dead after passing out during tryouts to join the city's SWAT team.

On Monday, Rogerio Morales collapsed while trying to complete a physical agility test at Markham Park in Sunrise. The two-year veteran collapsed, but could not be revived on the scene, police officials said.

He was transfered to the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, but he never regained consciousness and died Thursday night.

The cause of his death has not been released.

Most physical agility tests require the person to run fast, stop quickly, change direction and complete an obstacle course in less than 20 seconds.

Morales worked the midnight shift fot the road patrol division of the Police Department.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church located at 1401 Coral Ridge Drive, Coral Springs on Monday, January 16, 2011 at 11:00 am.
