Officer Struck, Dragged by Suspect's Car in Coral Springs: Police

An officer was hospitalized after being struck and dragged by a suspect's car in Coral Springs Tuesday, officials said.

Coral Springs Police officials said the officer was wearing plain clothes and tactical gear when the incident happened in the 8200 block of Wiles Road.

At one point, the officer was struck by a white BMW and suffered lacerations to his left hand and road rash to his right leg. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The officer opened fire during the incident but no one else was injured, officials said. Schools in the area were placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Two suspects who were in the car fled the scene, police said. One was taken into custody in a nearby residential area, and the other was taken into custody after being dropped off in another area, officials said.

Police haven't said what led to the incident or what charges the suspect may face.
