Officer, Suspect Injured in Police-Involved Shooting

Officer opens fire during Fort Lauderdale robbery investigation

A Fort Lauderdale police officer was injured Tuesday night after another officer opened fire on a robbery suspect, police said.

The incident happened when officers pulled over two men in the 1800 block of Northwest 3rd Terrace. The men were in a car that was believed to have been used by two men who had robbed a person near the 800 block of Northwest 13th St.

A confrontation began during the traffic stop, and as one of the suspects began to struggle with an officer, the second officer shot the other suspect.

"An officer discharged his firearm, the suspect was transported to the hospital, another officer sustained an injury while taking the other suspect into custody," said Fort Lauderdale Police spokesman Travis Mandell.

The officer was also hospitalized, but neither the officer or the suspect has life threatening injuries.
