One Dead, One Hospitalized in Miami Gardens Shooting

One man is dead and another is in critical condition after being shot Monday evening in Miami Gardens.

Police said shots rang out at an apartment complex in the 800 block of Northwest 214th Terrace around 6 p.m.

Residents fled their homes after hearing the gunfire and were forced to wait until police finished their investigation to return.

"Boom, boom, boom... when I heard that I hit the ground, I ducked... when you're in a house and hear gunshots that's what I was told to do, you hit the ground, don't stand up, hit the ground," one neighbor said.

Police said the shots were fired possibly by more than one gun after two men under the age of 25 got into an altercation in the parking lot.

One of the men was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, the other was taken to Aventura Hospital.

"We know that one male is deceased, another is in critical condition," said Detective Mike Wright of the Miami Gardens Police Department.

"Two people were shot, that's our friends, it happened at our apartment, it's our friend's car and our friend's house," neighbor Odie Nesbitt said.

Detectives said stray bullets hit cars and went through windows in the neighborhood, but thankfully no one else was injured.

"It's frightening to have that many rounds fired and entering any dwelling," Wright said.

Police said they have taken multiple people into custody for questioning, but no arrests have been made.
