One Dead, One Injured, One Arrested in Aventura Winn-Dixie Parking Lot Fight

The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. on Sunday at the Promenade Shoppes

One man was killed, one was left in critical condition and another was arrested after a stabbing incident in the parking lot of a Winn-Dixie, according to the Aventura Police Department.

The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. on Sunday at the Promenade Shoppes, located at 20355 Biscayne Boulevard. All involved were men, according to police.

"This is my shopping center behind my house. It just feels horrible," said Marta Baress, a local resident.

"It appears that all three individuals knew each other in some manner prior to this incident," police said in a statement. "There were no bystanders or other individuals injured as a result of this incident and no safety concerns in the area as a result of this incident."

Aventura Police said 49-year-old David Rodriguez was arrested in the incident on murder and attempted murder charges.

According to an arrest report, Rodriguez got into an altercation with the two victims inside a vehicle and at one point pulled out a large knife and stabbed the other men multiple times.

The incident was captured on nearby surveillance cameras, the report said.

Rodriguez got into his car and tried to flee the scene, driving over curbs and car stops at a high rate of speed before hitting another vehicle, the report said. His car became disabled about 200 yards from the stabbing scene, the report said.

Rodriguez was taken into custody after he was spotted walking in the shopping center.

The report said Rodriguez had a large amount of blood on his clothing, and a knife was found on the ground at the scene.

A damaged Nissan Altima appeared to be part of the crime scene. It was towed away.

A man told NBC 6 he was arriving to work when police ordered him to get to a safe place as they looked for the suspect.

"Everybody get inside because someone has a knife," said Carlos Ibarra. "It's shocking for me because this plaza is safe and I've never seen this before."

The report said the man who died had three stab wounds to his chest, six stab wounds to his left arm and two stab wounds to his neck. The other man received seven stab wounds, the report said.

Rodriguez was being held without bond Monday, jail records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
