One Killed in Fiery Turnpike Crash

One person is dead following a major accident on the Florida Turnpike Friday morning.

Troopers shut down traffic both ways following the crash that happened just before 4:00 a.m. in the Turnpike northbound lanes near the southwest 137th Avenue exit.

According to troopers on the scene, two cars were involved in the crash. A man rear-ended a woman and ran off the road, hitting some trees before his vehicle burst into flames.

That man had the be rescued and was hospitalized in critical condition but has succumbed to his injuries, police say.

The woman's car crossed over from the southbound lanes into the northbound lanes. She is shaken up, but expected to be okay, police say.
