One Killed, Four Hospitalized After Crash on Florida's Turnpike in Miami-Dade

A morning crash on the Florida Turnpike in Northwest Miami-Dade claimed the life of one person and sent four others to the hospital.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials say the crash took place just before 9 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Northwest 41st Street.

One person died at the scene while the other four victims were rushed to Kendall Regional Medical Center, two of them in critical condition. One of the victims was trapped in the vehicle and had to be helped out by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper.

The investigation continues into the crash, with FHP officials saying that a pickup truck carrying five people lost control and hit a light pole.

The identities of the victims involved have not been released. Two lanes southbound remain closed as of 11 a.m.
