Two Found With Drugs in Keys Roadway Operation

Coke, crack and weed found on Monroe County motorists

Monroe County Sheriff's Department roadway operation nabbed two people for drug possession in the Upper Keys last night, police said.

Detectives stopped 26 vehicles in total, issuing seven citations and eight warnings for safety related violations. Two were arrested for drug possession charges.

The operation conducted between mile markers 106 and 80 of U.S. One Highway was performed by the Special Investigations Division. Troopers from Florida Highway Patrol K-9 units, Border Patrol agents, HIDTA - Monroe County, the Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. Coast Guard Criminal Investigation all took part in Thursday night's operation.

According to police, during one stop, detectives arrested 31-year-old Tanaris Walker from Marathon after they found a bag in his vehicle that contained 12 crack cocaine rocks and marijuana. Walker was charged with possession of crack cocaine and marijuana and tampering with evidence.

Tamara Williams, 21, of Marathon, was also arrested after detectives stopped her vehicle and found eight rocks of crack cocaine. Williams was charged with possession of cocaine.

Both were booked into jail Thursday night.
