Students and staff from a school in Boca Raton hit the streets Tuesday morning for a planned walkout to the site of last week’s horrific Parkland school tragedy.

Chopper 6 was over the scene as a large group of people left West Boca High School off Glades Road, beginning a nearly 11 mile journey to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, where 17 people were killed last Wednesday.

Officials estimated as many as 1,000 people could be taking part in this walkout.

It’s the latest event in South Florida where students and staff have left the classroom to push for reforms in gun laws – a hotly debated issue that has come back to the forefront in the wake of the tragedy.

Earlier Tuesday, protests took place in front of both Fort Lauderdale High School and McArthur High School in Hollywood. Protests took place in front of American Heritage School in Plantation on Monday and at South Broward High School in Hollywood last Friday.
