Coast Guard officials offloaded in South Florida nearly 18,000 pounds in drugs confiscated during separate missions over the past year.
Chopper 6 was over the scene at Port Everglades where the cutter Bear brought in the 14,000 pounds of marijuana and over 3,600 pounds of cocaine – which combined have an estimated value of over $62 million.
"I could not be prouder of this crew's accomplishments, and of the entire interagency and allied team that continue to stand the watch in an effort to stem the efforts of smugglers that seek to destabilize the Western hemisphere while they line their pockets," said Lt. Cmdr. Andrew Dennelly, Executive Officer of Coast Guard Cutter Bear.
The drugs were confiscated during five missions off the coast of Mexico as well as Central and South America with two of the ships involved being based out of Florida.
