Over a Dozen Refugees Land In Martin County, Taken Into Custody

Authorities in Florida say more than a dozen refugees are in custody after they landed along the state's Treasure Coast.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office says 14 adults and two children were taken into custody by federal agents after arriving at Jupiter Island, Florida, just north of Palm Beach County.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Christine Weiss says they appear to be from Haiti and Colombia.

The group is made up of two children, six males and eight females, including one who is pregnant. She was taken to a hospital for observation.

There may be more refugees who ran away before law enforcement arrived.

Sheriff's Office air, ground and marine units are searching the area.
