Palm Beach County Fire Chief Quits Over Mishandling of Sexual Harassment Cases

A Florida fire rescue chief is resigning after allegations he mishandled sexual harassment reports in his department.

Palm Beach County Mayor Melissa McKinlay said Saturday that fire Chief Jeff Collins' resignation is effective next week.

McKinlay told The Palm Beach Post she believes the resignation was the right decision because his handling of sexual harassment cases has raised questions.

The newspaper reported that a female captain sued the county last December saying nothing was done to stop the division chief who told her in his office that he was offended that she wasn't having sex with him while spreading rumors she had sex with another supervisor.

The fire division chief was reprimanded last year, a year and a half after the initial complaint.
