Palm Beach County Schools Review Policies After Alleged Teacher Attack

Palm Beach County schools officials are reviewing their policies after they say a parent attacked a teacher inside a classroom.

Schools spokeswoman Kathy Burstein tells the South Florida Sun Sentinel that protocol at West Palm Beach's Roosevelt Elementary School may change based on what the investigation finds following the Dec. 17 incident.

Burstein says 30-year-old Shakira Green told a school employee she needed to get a backpack from her son's classroom. Once inside, officials say Green threatened and hit 57-year-old second-grade teacher Rosalind Simmons, who blacked out. Simmons was hospitalized and hasn't returned to school.

Principal Sharonda Alleyne says students were never in jeopardy during the incident.

Green was charged with battery on a school board employee and was released from jail after posting bail.

The motivation behind the alleged attack is not immediately clear.

It is not known if Green has an attorney.
