Panthers' Comeback Attempt Falls Short in Loss

The Panthers scored a late goal before falling to the Bruins by a final of 2-1 on Tuesday

The Florida Panthers scored a late goal in their 2-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Tuesday.

Florida has stumbled since a quick start to the year and has now lost four of the last five games it has played. Overall this season, the Panthers are 4-5-1 after beginning the year with a 2-0-0 record.

This game started badly for Florida and it was never able to recover. The Bruins took advantage of a penalty shot at the 3:53 mark of the first period to go ahead early.

Boston's other goal came while it was shorthanded in the second period. Florida stopped the Bruins on all four of their power plays during the game, which continued a relatively good year of penalty kills for the team. Unfortunately for the Panthers, their own advantages were a different story as Florida was 0-6 on power plays during the loss.

Florida's lone goal came at the 15:25 mark of the third period when Denis Malgin found the back of the net. Assisting on the score was Keith Yandle.

Roberto Luongo did all he could to keep the Panthers in the game, but Tuukka Rask was simply better in this one. Boston's goalie stopped all but one of the 34 attempts that Florida sent his way. Luongo finished with 24 saves of his own.

Up next for Florida is a home game against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
