Panthers Drop Third Straight

The Panthers continued to struggle with a third straight loss on Sunday against Tampa Bay

The Florida Panthers saw their skid grow to three games with a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.

Florida has struggled ever since its franchise record winning streak ended at 12 games. Since that loss in overtime to Vancouver, the Panthers have been outscored 9-1. Until Florida scored in the third period, it had gone seven straight periods without a goal.

This loss ended a grueling six-game road trip for Florida that spanned nearly two weeks. The trip opened well with three wins, but Florida has looked a different team as of late. Due to its great run previously, the Panthers still find themselves in first place in the Atlantic Division with 57 points.

Nick Bjugstad ended Florida's scoring drought with his eighth goal of the season at the 8:06 mark of the third period. Jussi Jokinen would assist on the goal which at the time made the game 2-1.

Florida had its opportunities with five power plays. The team could not do anything though on those chances as it went 0-5. The Panthers were successful when the tables were turned as Tampa Bay was 0-2 on its power play opportunities.

Roberto Luongo who had a miserable game his last time out, fared much better in this one. Luongo allowed four goals on Wednesday before being lifted after just one period. The goalie stopped 29 of 31 shots in Sunday's loss.

Florida will return home on Monday when it hosts the Edmonton Oilers at BB&T Center.
