Panthers Sign Evgeny Dadonov to Three-Year Deal

The Panthers brought veteran forward Evgeny Dadonov back to Florida on Saturday

The Florida Panthers signed veteran forward Evgeny Dadonov to a three-year contract on Saturday.

Dadonov last played in the NHL during the 2011-12 season and he was a member of the Panthers at the time. Since departing Florida, Dadonov has been in the Kontinental Hockey League, where he recorded a total of 240 points.

Dadonov was drafted by the Panthers way back in 2007 during the third round. Since being selected, the forward has improved his game and his résumé extensively. While the team did not disclose the value of the new contract, it is worth a reported $4 million per season.

"We are thrilled welcome Evgeny back to South Florida," Panthers' President of Hockey Operations & General Manager Dale Tallon said. "He is an exciting, talented forward who fits well with our core group. We are pleased that Evgeny has chosen to continue his NHL career as Panther."

It remains to be seen how Florida will utilize Dadonov, but new head coach Bob Boughner likely has something up his sleeve. The Panthers have seen several names leave this off-season already and are going to have a slightly new look in 2017-18.

During the first official day of free agency, the Panthers also announced the signing of Alex Petrovic to a one-year contract. Petrovic had 14 points last season and will once again serve as depth for Florida.

The Panthers have not publicly commented on the status of Jaromir Jagr in recent weeks, but there are reports that his time in Florida could be at an end. The veteran is a free agent, but the Panthers may have decided to move on from the future Hall of Famer. A reunion however remains possible, until Jagr signs on the dotted line elsewhere.

Florida will begin the 2017-18 season on October 6th against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
