Parents of Baby Left in Car Appear in Family Court

A court hearing was held on Thursday, after an 11-month-old boy was forgotten in a vehicle after a trip to the grocery store. Once his parents realized, it was too late.

The devastating scene unfolded Wednesday at an apartment complex in the 3100 block of Northwest 19th Street in Lauderhill.

Detectives arrived around 6:30 p.m. to find the parents performing CPR on the child, but their efforts would be in vain. The baby died.

The boy's father and mother understandably were not ready to speak to the media on Thursday. The mother wiped away tears after an emotional afternoon at Broward Family Court.

"Supervised visits by the department only," said the judge during the court hearing.

Elaine and Kenneth Weaver learned their remaining four kids will not be coming home after mom remembered to unpack the groceries from her blue explorer, but the youngest most precious cargo, only 11-months-old, was left behind in the hot sweltering SUV.

It's being reported it was one hour after the groceries were unpacked from the vehicle, when mom couldn't find one of her five children.

Elaine's other four children, ages 2, 5, 12 and 13, are temporarily in the custody of relatives. But Weaver's attorney hopes that will soon change.

"Hopefully they'll offer her another reunification case plan. It was a terrible accident," said Attorney Jeff Levy.

The Weavers will be back in Family Court on Aug. 3 to find out whether they'll get their children back.

The Lauderhill Police Department has handed this case over to the State Attorney's Office, where charges are now pending.
