Pawn Shop Eavesdropper Robs Woman of Rolex: BSO

Authorities are searching for a man who robbed a woman of her Rolex watch after eavesdropping on her conversation inside a Tamarac pawn shop.

The incident happened back on December 10, when the 46-year-old woman went to Joey's Pawn Shop at 4985 N. State Road 7 to discuss selling a gold Rolex, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

During the discussion, the suspect entered the store trying to sell an iPhone and overheard the conversation about the Rolex. A surveillance camera captured him inside the store listening to the conversation, officials said.

The suspect left the store a few minutes before the victim and waited for her by her car, and when she returned to her car he demanded the watch at gunpoint, officials said. He then fled the scene on foot.

BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said the robber put his gun to her head.

"This was a really terrifying experience, she was confronted by this man who was just standing next to her in the shop minutes before," Carter said.

Owner Rafael Bernstein said it's the first time in 10 years that someone has been robbed at the store.

"I checked the Rolex and I said it's gold and real. I think meantime the guy was watching and listening," Bernstein said. "It was sad, she's a good customer and I don't like people forcing onto other people...I wish he'd get caught cause you can't help people like that."

Authorities described the suspect as a black male with a medium athletic frame who was wearing a black baseball cap with the word "Nope" on the front. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
