Pawn Shop Thief Drop Kicks Door to Escape

Man stole $5,000 necklace and nearly jumped through the exit door

A South Florida thief used his feet for more than beating a hasty getaway after stealing jewelry from a local pawn shop.

Surveillance video at Peoples Pawn & Jewelry in Pembroke Park captured the suspect drop kicking the door as he dashed out of the shop with a $5,000 necklace Aug. 16.

Employees at the store gave chase but couldn't catch the fleet-footed bandit. The man's flying kick did provide authorities with a piece of evidence, however.

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives said he dropped his black San Francisco Giants baseball cap as he flew through the air.

Cameras also captured the man as he entered the store carrying a box as if he wanted to pawn some items.

BSO said the man asked to try on a 14-karat yellow gold necklace. Once he had it on, the suspect bolted for the door.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid-to-late 20s. He's about 5'6, weighs about 135 pounds and has a tattoo of the word "son" on his left forearm, BSO said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
