Perimeter Set Up in Sweetwater After Juveniles Pull Gun on Woman

What to Know

  • Two juveniles were arrested Sunday after allegedly pulling a gun on a woman in Sweetwater.
  • One man allegedly told the victim to tell police to show up to his home so they can "shoot it out."
  • No one was injured.

Two young people are behind bars after they allegedly made threats with a gun and sent police from a number of agencies searching for a suspect.

The Lieutenant for City of Sweetwater Police confirmed to NBC 6 that the incident started because a woman was threatened by a young man, who pulled a gun on her and threatened her.

The accused man is facing charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers put two men in custody. The other person was with the main suspect at the time and had a firearm on him, but tried getting rid of it when police arrived.

The second juvenile suspect is also facing charges but for weapons possession. NBC 6 crews heard the men yelling and visibly resisting officers as they were escorted to the police car.

The incident happened Sunday night at Northwest 7th Street and Northwest 112th Avenue.

The woman who called police after she was threatened told police that the suspect took off, then called her saying he was at a nearby apartment complex and that police should look for him there so they can “shoot it out.”

Officers were able to track down the suspect and his friend at his home address.

“I’ve been living here for years and this is a very nice area. I’ve never heard about anything like this before,” said Alvaro Montes, a witness.

There was a heavy police presence from three departments, including: Sweetwater, Doral and Miami-Dade. Police will continue to investigate the scene of the incident.

The names of the victims are not being released because the suspects are juveniles.
