Victim in Critical Condition After Shooting in Lauderhill

A man in his 20’s is in critical condition after gunshots rang out in Lauderhill early Wednesday morning.

“There’s like four or five rounds, like pow, pow, pow,” said Yahara Ponce, who lives in the neighborhood. "We all think it’s fireworks or them playing around so we don’t pay not mind to it. We just go to sleep.”

Police said the shooting happened just before 5 a.m. on the 5200 block of Northwest 24th Court in Lauderhill. Neighbor Darren Hill saw what happened and said he heard a shot and then saw a man fall on the grass before then getting up and running across the street.

“I saw two males, one take off going to the left and one took off going this way. There wasn’t a lot of people out here,” Hill said. “All I can think of is they had a disagreement and then there was a little fallout.”

Hill continued, “I was going to go help him, but when I saw the people coming in my direction; my first thought was to get back in the house. I saw the shot and I didn’t want to be anymore part of it than that.”

Lauderhill Police said they need the public’s help identifying the shooter. Police canvassed the area, but came up empty. The victim is unknown as are the shooters, and the motive for the shooting.

“My detectives still have to find out how the victim is related to the community and that is based off the assistance of this community as well,” said Lauderhill Police Lt. Greg Solowsky.

If you have any information about the shooting, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
