Photo of Gun Sparks Worries of Possible Threat at Miami-Dade School

A picture of a gun posted on social media has sparked worries and an investigation into a possible threat aimed at a Miami-Dade school.

The Coral Gables Police Department tweeted Monday saying they received information from parents of students at Gulliver Academy claiming a student posted a photo of a gun on Snapchat.

A screenshot obtained by NBC 6 appears to show someone messaging a picture of a gun and telling another person not to go to school.

Detectives responded to the home of the student and secured the airsoft rifle that appeared in the social media post. They determined there was no credible threat.

"We are aware of concerning social media communications by a student. However, no direct threat was made, our protocols were followed, and the child was referred by administration for review," Gulliver said in a statement. "The safety of our students is of paramount importance. We take situations like this seriously and are handling the matter according to established protocols and procedures."
