Pit Bulls Injure 5 People in Central Florida; Officer Kills 4 Dogs

Authorities say five people were injured, one critically, when they were attacked by a pack of pit bulls in central Florida.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Sanford police responded to a 911 call Tuesday afternoon.

Police spokeswoman Bianca Gillett says an officer rushed to the Stonebrook apartment complex and saw five pit bulls mauling a woman. The officer opened fire, killing four of the dogs. The fifth dog was subdued but alive.

Two women, one man and one boy were hospitalized. One woman's injuries were considered life-threatening. Another boy had minor injuries and was not transported.

Police say they didn't immediately know if the dogs belonged to anyone.
