Suspects in Custody After Chase in Fort Lauderdale: Police

Three people were taken into custody after a police chase in Fort Lauderdale.

The police pursuit started in the area of 31st Street and Commercial Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale.

Officers in an unmarked vehicle spotted and attempted to stop a stolen car when the driver took off. She made it roughly 30 blocks, where she slammed into an SUV.

The three individuals ultimately bailed out of the vehicle around 12 p.m. Tuesday.

"She began moving at a high rate of speed, attempting to elude the marked units responding to the area," said Det. Keven Dupree.

Police gave chase, and all three suspects were apprehended.

The driver was identified as 21-year-old Jasmine Burgess. She has been charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, possession of cocaine, resisting an officer, driving with a suspended license and failure to remain at a crash involving injury.

The second subject has been identified as 29-year-old Melvin Jackson, who has been charged with resisting an officer.

The third person apprehended was released and will not face charges.
