Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Tri-Rail in Dania Beach

Authorities say a pedestrian was killed by a Tri-Rail train while walking on the tracks in South Florida.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. Tuesday at the Dania Beach Station near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The train was heading north when it struck the pedestrian. The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority said the crash caused "major delays" during Tuesday morning's rush hour.

Authorities said they don't know why the man was on the tracks but said it's possible he had some sort of visual impairment that may have caused him to become disoriented.

The man's identity wasn't released.

The accident is being investigated by the Broward Sheriff's Office.
