Police Body Camera Footage Shows Arrest of Zachary Cruz for Trespassing at Stoneman Douglas

Brother of school shooting suspect arrested outside Stoneman Douglas on Monday

Police body camera footage showing the arrest of the brother of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz outside the Parkland school where 17 were killed in a mass shooting was released Friday.

The video shows the arrest of 18-year-old Zachary Cruz for trespassing on school grounds Monday. Cruz was skateboarding on the campus of the school where authorities say his brother, Nikolas Cruz, killed 17 people and wounded 17 others in the Valentine's Day shooting.

The footage shows Cruz wearing a hat, earphones and a backpack as he's questioned by officers. Officials said he had been warned not to visit the campus but did so three times.

"I just wanted to kind of take it all in," Cruz tells the officers when questioned about why he was there.

The officers check his backpack and ask him how he got to the school. There's some discussion among the officers before he's placed in handcuffs and into the back of a police car.

Cruz was ordered held on $500,000 bond after his arrest, which his attorney has called excessive. The standard bond is $25 for trespassing.
