Police Dig Up Backyard in Northwest Miami-Dade in 1982 Missing Persons Case

An investigation into a 1982 missing persons case led police to dig up a backyard in northwest Miami-Dade Tuesday, officials said.

Police said they received tips on the cold case that led them to the home in the area of Northwest 195th Drive and 54th Place in the Lakes of Acadia neighborhood.

Miami-Dade Public works was assisting. They are excavating the back yard looking for evidence but police said nothing had been found yet. Crews finished digging Tuesday but said they would be back Wednesday.

Police said they have received continuous leads throughout the years leading them to the home but gave no other information on the missing person.

"No matter how long it is detectives always would love to bring closure to the family about their loved ones and hopefully we will be able to do so today," Miami-Dade Police spokesperson Robin Pinkard said.

One neighbor said the people that live at the home are out of town, but he can't believe they have anything to do with what they're searching for.

"You never know your neighbor but I've known Kevin for many many years and I would, I don't think whatever they are looking for, whatever they are trying to do has nothing to do with him," neighbor Terry O'Brien said. "That's my personal opinion. I know his wife very well, they're good friends of the family, I know their kids."
