Police Investigate Alleged Abduction Near FIU

Police are investigating an alleged abduction near Florida International University's south campus Friday night.

A female student said she had been abducted from a bus stop at SW 107th Avenue and 17th Street around 11:30 a.m. Friday morning. The student contacted police after she was released near the Dolphin Mall.

The brazen incident has students on campus concerned.

"It could happen again," said FIU student Roxana Concepcion. "Cause it was in broad daylight and, I mean, that's never really happened at FIU."

Another believes police presence is lacking outside the campus.

"There's police inside FIU but not outside," said student Valentina Franco. "So it's always a little bit worrisome, especially for people who walk."

FIU students received an email Saturday evening from campus police, which described the abductor as a man in his mid-30s, clean shaven, with medium-length black hair. Police said the man was driving a white 1999 Jeep Cherokee.

Miami-Dade Police are investigating, as FIU Police ask all students to be vigilant. Franco says she has already taken measures to protect herself.

"I usually have pepper spray in my purse," Franco said. "But really, that can happen to anybody."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Police at (305) 476-5423, or FIU Police at (305) 348-2626.
