Police Investigate “Bizarre” Shooting, Chase & Suicide in Davie

Police are investigating an incident that started with a car riddled with bullets at a busy intersection in Davie. Officers then chased the suspected shooter only to find him dead from an apparent suicide off of I-75.

“It’s truly a bizarre incident,” said Sgt. Mark Leone of Davie Police.

Police are working to figure out why a shooting that started on State Road 84 and University Drive ended in a suicide along I-75.

“There’s no indication that would lead us to believe that this is road rage,” said Sgt. Leone.

Around 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening, police responded to a call of shots fired at a white Pontiac. Moments later, police received several calls from people who saw a white pickup truck with the passenger side window shattered. That’s when police tried to stop the driver.

Police identified the shooter as Lance Warren, 26.

“Due to the erratic driving of the vehicle, police officers discontinued chasing him,” said Sgt. Leone.

Just after 7:30 p.m., the same truck passed a Davie lieutenant at a high rate of speed. After attempting to stop him, the driver fled onto I-75.

“As police officers walked up to the vehicle when it was stopped on I-75, he retrieved a gun from the floor of the passenger seat and killed himself,” said Sgt. Leone.

Police don’t think the driver of the white pickup or the white Pontiac knew each other. It’s unclear why the driver of the pickup shot at the other car in the first place. No one in the Pontiac was injured.
