Husband Shoots, Kills Estranged Wife in West Kendall

A mother of two is dead after police say her estranged husband shot and killed her early Thursday outside her West Kendall apartment before turning the gun on himself.

The shooting was reported shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday at 7510 Southwest 152nd Avenue at the Sunrise at Sunset apartment complex.

Police say Alina Gregoria Lomonte Carrera, 47, got into an argument with her estranged husband, 56-year-old Manuel Macias Rodriguez, in the complex parking lot. The couple's two sons, one just 16-years-old, were upstairs in the apartment at the time.

Police said Rodriguez shot Carrera multiple times then shot himself. Carrera's body was left in the parking lot. Rodriguez was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The incident is being described as an attempted murder-suicide by police. An investigation is ongoing.

The sons were taken to police headquarters for questioning.

Miami-Dade Police are continuing to investigate.
