Police Investigate Woman's Death in ER Doctor's Apartment

The Broward State Attorney’s Office won’t be filing charges against Dr. Parikh in connection to the case, writing in a memo there is no evidence Parikh gave Langille all the drugs that were found in her system and contributed to her death, including fatal amounts of fentanyl. The medical examiner report doesn’t list marijuana in her toxicology, despite being cited by prosecutors and police.

A memo, recently provided by prosecutors, says the DEA completed a lab examination of the bags found in Parikh’s apartment and the results show four contained cocaine and one contained THC but they did not show traces of fentanyl, other drugs found in Langille’s system or initially suspected like heroin.

In court filings, Parikh denied giving any drugs to Langille. Following the prosecutors’ decision, his attorney sent NBC 6 a statement: “Dr. Parikh hopes to finally put this sad event behind him. It was a very traumatic event for him. The investigation shows a few points clearly. First, the witness statements prove Dr. Parikh never met Ms. Langille at a bar nor did he invite her over and instead somebody else invited Ms. Langille to Dr. Parikh’s apartment. Further, the medical reports, including the autopsy reports, all show no evidence of any sexual intercourse. Finally, the investigation and closing report prove that upon discovering the deceased, Dr. Parikh attempted to assist and resuscitate Ms. Langille. This situation has been sad and difficult for everyone, and Dr. Parikh continues to pray for Ms. Langille’s family.”

The Florida Department of Health has not taken any disciplinary action against Parikh and his license remains active.

A young woman was found dead in the Fort Lauderdale apartment of an emergency room doctor after a night of drinking, drugs and sex, according to a police document.

An autopsy found Olya Langille, 18, died of an accidental overdose. Cocaine, ecstasy, fentanyl and Xanax were the drugs found in her system.

Fort Lauderdale police tell NBC 6 her death is still under investigation but they have no reason to suspect foul play in the March 26 overdose.

Langille’s family and friends are distraught about her death and want answers about what happened in the hours before she died.

“It’s all so surreal right now,” said Leslie Maxson, a longtime friend of Langille’s mom, Jeanne. She says she watched Olya grow up.

“I’m still having a hard time grasping all the sadness and all the upset that we’ve had in her family and my own family because of her loss,” Maxson said from her Jupiter home.

Maxson says Olya moved to South Florida to work on yachts.

“She was very excited. It was a new adventure for her,” she said.

A 911 call at 9 a.m. on March 26 brought police and paramedics to a high-rise apartment building on North Federal Highway, not far from Las Olas.

The call came from Dr. Naval Parikh.

Parikh told the officer who arrived that he met Olya at Blondies at Fort Lauderdale Beach. He said they had several drinks and went back to his apartment where they “snorted cocaine, smoked marijuana and had consensual sex,” then fell asleep.

He said he moved to sleep on a living room sofa, leaving Langille in the bed.

He said he heard her snoring at 3:00 a.m., but when he awoke at 9:00 a.m., he said she was unresponsive and he called 911.

The officer reported finding “several small zip-lock bags containing suspect cocaine and/or heroin, and a suspected drug pipe,” in a drawer of a nightstand in the master bedroom where Olya was found dead in the nude.

There is no follow-up information on if what was found was tested to determine what it was.

Olya’s friends and family say they are concerned to learn the details of her final hours, especially that her death was in the home of a 41-year-old doctor.

“He had the responsibility to take care of her and make sure she was okay,” Maxson said.

NBC 6 found Parikh had privileges at Broward Health North and has been reporting to work since March 26.

When NBC 6 called his office they said he works in the emergency room. A Broward Health spokesperson said they only learned of the woman’s death in the doctor’s apartment when told by NBC 6. In response, they provided this one sentence statement: "We take these allegations very seriously and have arranged alternative coverage for this physician’s patients pending further investigation.”

Parikh has not responded to our efforts to reach him regarding the death.
