Cops Search for Suspect After Police-Involved Shooting in Southwest Miami-Dade

Authorities are searching for a suspect after a police-involved shooting in southwest Miami-Dade Friday morning.

The incident happened around 2:15 a.m. near an apartment complex in the area of Southwest 82nd Street and Southwest 76th Avenue near Dadeland Mall.

Miami-Dade Police said the suspect fled from officers during a traffic stop before crashing his car into a fence. Police caught up to the suspect who got out of the car and pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officers, and one of the officers opened fire, officials said.

The suspect then fled on foot across the Palmetto Expressway. No one was injured.

A security guard told NBC 6 he heard shots fired and saw a man jumping a gate.

"The guy walked right by me, he crossed the street. He looked a little winded. That's when I called the other security guard to come here," guard Raphael Perez said. "When the other security guard came with his lights that's when he started running and he hopped the first fence that he saw."

The incident had some nearby roadways closed, including both directions of the Palmetto Expressway at Southwest 88th Street.

Police said they're looking for a black male, 5-foot-8 to 6-foot, between 25-35, who was in a newer model white Toyota Camry. He is armed, officials said.

No other information was immediately known.
