Off-Duty Miami Police Officer Shoots Man in NW Miami-Dade

The Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating after an off-duty City of Miami cop shot a man during an altercation early Friday.

The shooting occurred in the area of Northwest 127th Street and Northwest 19th Avenue, according to MDPD Det. Argemis Colome.

Colome said the off-duty cop was dropping off a woman at a home on Northwest 19th Avenue when the woman got into a verbal altercation with a man at the home.

The man then approached the officer's car, and got into an altercation with the cop, Colome said.

At one point, the officer opened fire, shooting the man. The man was hospitalized in critical but stable condition, Colome said.

Family members said the shooting stemmed from a love triangle. Tara Brown said her cousin, 29-year-old Antwan Brown, was shot three times by the officer. She said her cousin is dating the woman, who is the ex-girlfriend of the cop.

"If you're in a relationship, you shouldn't even communicate with your ex, period," Tara Brown said.

Police haven't confirmed the relationship information.
