Police Arrest Mother of Young Boy Found Wandering Street in Boynton Beach

Boy, 2, spotted standing in street early Tuesday: Police.

Police said they've arrested the mother of a young boy who was found wandering a Boynton Beach street Tuesday morning.

The 2-year-old boy was found wandering in traffic in the left hand lane of Gateway Boulevard near Congress Avenue, Boynton Beach Police said.

According to police, an off-duty firefighter spotted the boy, who was wearing just a shirt and diaper, standing in the street shortly before 6 a.m., police said. The boy wasn't injured and was safe with officers Tuesday morning.

Someone recognized the boy after seeing his photo on the news and called police, and officers found his mother and her boyfriend.

The mother, Kathy Reed, faces a charged of child neglect without great bodily harm, police said.

The Department of Children and Families has been notified and will determine who will take custody of the boy, police said.
