Murder Suspect Killed in Police-Involved Shooting Near TGK Correctional Center in NW Dade

A Miami man wanted for murder was shot and killed by Miami-Dade police officers Monday, officials said.

John Spaulding, 47, was shot dead during an encounter with undercover officers on the corner of 41st street and Northwest 70th Avenue, which is near TGK Correctional Center. The jail was put on lockdown for several hours during the investigation, but was later lifted. Visitation resumed at 8 p.m.

Undercover officers tracked down Spaulding in an SUV and tried to approach him, but that's when shots were fired and the 47-year-old was shot dead.

Detectives said he was armed, but it remained unclear if he pointed the weapon at officers.

No officers were injured in the shooting. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.
