Prisoner Who Escaped in Miami Gardens Caught: Police

A handcuffed prisoner who escaped police custody in Miami Gardens Tuesday afternoon has been caught, officials said.

A perimeter was set up from Northwest 12th Avenue to 14th Avenue and from 159th Street to 165th Street after the handcuffed man escaped, police said.

According to police, 19-year-old Deshon Freeman, who had been arrested for grand theft and other felony charges, was being processed at a local precinct and was walking to a police cruiser when he forcibly got away from an officer.

Freeman wasn't wearing shoes but fled on foot.

Officers were seen stopping and searching vehicles in the perimeter area before Freeman was found about two hours later.

Freeman was apparently hiding in some bushes near a warehouse when a worker spotted him.

Police said Freeman now faces charges of escape, simple battery and resisting with violence.
