Police Dispatcher's Husband Shot, Killed in Florida City

Homicide detectives are searching for at least one suspect after a man was shot and killed in Florida City early Saturday morning.

Florida City Police dispatcher Toya Edgecomb Haynes returned home from her overnight shift to discover her husband's lifeless body inside their home near the corner of SW 9th Avenue and SW 2nd Street.

The victim has been identified as local musician Lorenzo Haynes. Records indicate he owned Billion Dollar Haynes Music LLC, and he operated the studio out of the same home where he was found dead.

According to family members, the victim and his son spent the evening at the victim's father's house. They left after 3 a.m., then visited Mrs. Haynes at work during her overnight shift. A few hours later, just after 7:15 a.m., the 911 dispatcher would come home to find her husband had been shot. A woman whose job it is to walk others through the most difficult times had to call 911 herself to ask for help.

Investigators are interviewing possible witnesses, and issued a "Be on the Look Out," or BOLO, for a black Mercedes-Benz that was seen leaving the area.

Miami-Dade Homicide is taking the lead on the investigation. They are asking anyone with information to call police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
