Police Seek to Identify Dead Infant Found Floating Near Boynton Beach Inlet

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is calling for the public's help in identifying an infant whose body was found floating in the ocean near the Boynton Beach Inlet last week.

"We are seeking the community's assistance to identify this baby found Friday," PBSO wrote on Twitter. "The female infant was no more than 14 days old."

PBSO captain Steven Strivelli, who works in the Special Victim's Unit, said they continue to investigate the "tragedy" as a medical examiner works to determine a cause of death.

"It's gut-wrenching. We hate seeing it. We desperately want to get to the bottom of what happened," Strivelli said. "We are asking anyone in the public who has any information about this case or what might have happened, about the parents or who they might be, to contact the PBSO."

An off-duty firefighter was boating near the Boynton Beach Inlet when he made the discovery on Friday.

Anyone with information is urged to call PBSO detective Hamilton at 561-688-4155 or email at hamiltonc@pbso.org.
