Pompano Beach Teen Accused of Making Online Threat, Possessing Pipe Bomb

Authorities say 16-year-old made threat while playing online video game

A Pompano Beach teen who threatened to kill students and had a pipe bomb in his home has been arrested, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

The 16-year-old was playing an online video game Monday afternoon when he made the statement, officials said. A tipster called police and when deputies arrived at his home, they found a homemade pipe bomb and weapons, officials said.

Bomb squad deputies along with Homeland Security and the FBI responded to the home, officials said. The teen is now facing a felony charge for possessing explosives.

The teen is home-schooled, according to an arrest report. He remained in the county's Juvenile Assessment Center Tuesday, officials said.

Authorities have made several similar arrests in the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting that claimed 17 lives earlier this month.
