Pompano Beach Woman Ran Over Twice, Killed: BSO

Authorities have arrested a man who ran over a woman with a pick-up truck in Pompano Beach Saturday evening.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said a man in a Dodge truck was talking to 55-year-old Barbara "Bobbie" Sapp in the parking lot of Rocky's Food Store at 800 Hammondville Road around 6:30 p.m.

BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella said Sapp and the man began arguing. The man quickly moved the truck, causing the woman to fall to the ground. Witnesses told deputies that the man intentionally ran over Sapp twice.

Sapp was rushed to Broward Health North, where she was pronounced dead.

The suspect, later identified as 53-year-old Lawton Cohen, fled the scene but was arrested Sunday at his home in Tamarac, the BSO said.

Cohen faces a first-degree murder charge and was being held without bond early Monday. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.

Cohen told detectives he didn't realize he had run over Sapp, BSO officials said.
