Protest Held at ‘Salt Bae' Steakhouse in Miami Over Nicolas Maduro Video

Local Venezuelan groups held a protest Wednesday outside the South Florida steakhouse owned by the popular chef known as "Salt Bae" after footage emerged showing him serving President Nicolas Maduro.

Protesters gathered outside the Brickell Avenue eatery for the midday demonstration.

"All Miamians should be outraged at the actions of the owner of this restaurant," Miami Commissioner Joe Carollo said.

An Instagram video showed Maduro visiting the famed Nusr-Et steakhouse in Istanbul when he stopped over briefly in Turkey on the way home from a trip to China to raise badly needed investment.

In the video, Maduro is seen puffing on a cigar while he and first lady Cilia Flores watch owner Nusret "Salt Bae" Gokce slicing meat. The post was later deleted.

The Latin American country is not only suffering an economic crisis, but millions of Venezuelans have little access to food and medicine.

"I could not believe someone in their own conscious, in their own right mind could do something like that," protester Ramon Saul Sanchez said. "It's like putting the same salt in the wounds of the Venezuelan people that are very hurt."
