It's been more than six weeks since Hurricane Maria made its devastating landfall in Puerto Rico. To help the island recover, musicians are preparing for a relief concert in Pembroke Pines on Friday.
"We need to do everything possible to help them out," musician Carlos Oliva said. "We're going to try and rock the house a little bit."
The Viernes Social in Pembroke Pines – Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Concert will be held at the Charles F. Dodge City Center starting at 8 p.m. on Friday. There will be a pre-concert party at the City Center Plaza starting at 6:30 p.m., which includes a donation drive and music.
Tickets for the event begin at $25 each at the concert hall that seats about 2,600 people.
Puerto Rican artists who will perform include Nestor Torres, Tito Puente Jr., Michael Stuart and Bobby Rodriguez Y La Compañia.
Net proceeds will be sent to the AARP Foundation Hurricane Maria Relief Fund to help disaster victims. AARP will match up to $250,000 in donations.
"I'm praying for a full house," Rodriguez said.
